Air Polution Danger

Quoting information from the official portal of the Ministry of Health, one of the environmental issues that affect human health is air pollution. The effects of air pollution vary, ranging from respiratory problems such as pneumonia, lung cancer, tuberculosis, to asthma problems.

The adverse effects of air pollution on animals are not much different from humans, namely causing various respiratory problems. In addition, air pollution is also able to disrupt the balance of the ecosystem, which affects the way these creatures live.

Not only that, damage to plants can also be caused by pollution. Some examples of the damage caused to flora or plants due to pollution include:

  1. Impaired photosynthetic response
  2. Destruction of green leaf matter
  3. Decreased yields
  4. Leaves become spots.

Causes of Air Pollution

Contaminated air quality can be detrimental to the well-being of living organisms. Listed below are the factors that trigger air pollution in an area.

1. Forest fires

Accidents of forest fires that are intentional or unintentional can produce thick smoke. Apart from polluting the atmosphere, this smoke also has the potential to harm health by inducing respiratory problems, such as difficulty breathing.

2. Power plants

Power plants that use gas, coal or petroleum fuels will emit hazardous substances, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulates and sulfur dioxide, which contribute to air pollution. These hazardous substances also have the potential to cause global warming effects.

3. Erupting Volcano

When a volcano erupts, it emits volcanic ash, toxic gases, grains of sand and other hazardous materials. The products of this eruption will cause air pollution and have the potential to harm health.

4. Vehicles

Substances produced from the combustion process in motor vehicles include carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile compounds. As a result, these substances can contaminate the atmosphere and cause damage to the ozone layer.

5. Factory Smoke

Particles released through factory chimneys contain very harmful contaminants, such as hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. This factory emission has the potential to cause interference with the human respiratory system.

Ways to Protect from Pollution

Ways to Prevent Air Pollution

Smoke coming from vehicles and the combustion process is one of the main triggers of air pollution. There are various methods that can be implemented to prevent air pollution, including:

  1. Reducing the use of motorized vehicles
  2. Do tree planting
  3. Using public transportation
  4. Use a bicycle or walk
  5. Avoid burning trash
  6. Recycle reusable products.
